Support Hawke's Bay in its Cyclone recovery

Hawke's Bay is reeling in the devastating effects of Cyclone Gabrielle. As rescue efforts continue, our communities are rallying around each other to help in any way we can to ensure all communities are supported.

If you are keen to help, but don't really know where to start, we've pulled together some organisations who are doing great work and seeking donations of goods, time or financial support.

Financial Donations

Red Cross New Zealand - providing flood relief to all required areas.
Hawke's Bay Foundation - dedicated Hawke's Bay charitable organisation, distributing funds to local communities most in need.
Hawke's Bay Mayoral Relief Fund (Hawke's Bay Disaster Relief Trust - created by Hawke's Bay Regional Council on behalf of all local mayors to support all Hawke's Bay Communities.
Ngāti Kahungunu Iwi Inc - all funds collected to be distributed to affected communities across the entire rohe.

SPCA Cyclone Fund

Goods Donations

Many of the donation centres have been overwhelmed with the generosity of the community, especially in providing clothing and bedding. They are asking people to hold these donations for now. But there is still a requirement for non-perishable food, water and fuel.

Large volume donations of non-perishable food and fuel (truckloads or Pallets) can be delivered to Tomoana Showgrounds. Please email logistics@hbemergency.gov.nz to coordinate.

For smaller volumes of non-perishable food donations please take them to local charities via usual goods donation channels (churches, marae, community groups). Also keep an eye on local community pages as they are posting specific requests for those unable to access supplies.

Nourished for Nil collects and redistributes fresh, packaged and frozen food at four locations across Napier and Hastings and welcomes financial and foodstuffs donations. Please check their requirements before dropping off foodstuffs.
More information here, or make a donation here.
Smith & Sheth are organising consolidated deliveries to Nourished for Nil. If you would like to contribute non-perishable goods (canned foods, pasta, rice, long life/powdered milk etc) and household items (sanitary products, tooth paste, shampoo etc) please drop items off at the Smith & Sheth Oenothèque or head office in Havelock North.

Re-Source Hawke's Bay collects and redistributes used furniture, soft goods and clothing across Hawke's Bay and welcomes financial and goods donations. Please check their requirements before dropping off goods.
More information here, or make a donation here.

Hastings Racecourse (with the help of HUHANZ and the SPCA) has become a refuge for animals big and small to shelter and be reunited with their owners. They are welcoming all animal supply donations but are in particular need of old towels that can be used to help clean up the animals being brought in.

Volunteering

Everyone has a skill to offer, from feeding those working on clean-up efforts to grabbing a spade and getting stuck in, there's plenty to be done. The below places are helping coordinate volunteers.
